Our social enterprise projects use plants and produce from the gardens to create a whole range of stuff to share and sell: pop-up kitchens, market stalls, the Munch Machine food truck, a natural soap and beauty company, and a plant-based fashion line. This creates employment opportunities and all profits go back into our projects.
Market Stalls + Pop-Up Cafes
Youth from the New Orleans gardens sell the vegetables they grow at local markets and collaborate with celebrity chefs to cook produce for their community. Participants are taught accounting and invoicing, promoting financial literacy.
Our vintage Bedford, lovingly restored and hand painted in gold! The Munch Machine is our Food Truck, available to schools and community groups for cooking classes and event catering. The Munch Machine is kitted out with state of the art commercial kitchen, gas hot plates, an electric oven, coffee machine and fridges. Students are encouraged to learn all aspects of food service and small business skills.

Soap + Beauty
At the moment, we’re working on a natural soap and beauty company that uses herbs from the 24 Carrot gardens. Made from organically cultivated or wild-harvested invasive plant ingredients, the products will be sold in bespoke glass and ceramic refillable pump bottles—an expression of our zero-waste philosophy. The products will be used at Mona, Mona’s new hotel (when it’s built), and hotels belonging to 24 Carrot funders.
After conducting a series of workshops with young women in 24 Carrot neighborhoods, we learnt that the beauty industry was a top career choice. The soap and beauty company will employ local women, with an emphasis on young mothers, and provide training in chemistry through an on-site laboratory. Members of the community (which suffers from multi-generational unemployment) will be given the opportunity to work in a positive, healthy environment with childcare, where children can play, learn and cook healthy food from the garden. A sister branch in New Orleans is in development.
