The school opened in 1952 as an area school (Years 1 to 10) with a school farm and an enrolment of 198 students. The school now has approximately 600 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school is situated on large grounds and staff certainly get their steps up each day walking around the yard!

Principal Ange Miezitis moved from Moonah Primary to Brighton Primary in September 2016 and could instantly see the potential for implementing a kitchen garden program, particularly with the farm just across the road (now belonging to the Jordan River Senior School).  Staff were keen and started an action research investigation to work out the best place for the garden.  Students from Grade 3/4 classes assisted with designing the garden in consultation with architect Ross Brewin, and were thrilled with the final design.
