It might have been cold, but that hasn’t slowed things down in the school garden. We have been harvesting potatoes, kale, lettuce, silverbeet, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, beetroot, carrots, parsnip and oca and planted garlic, broad beans, peas and also green manure, which is a crop we will dig back in to add organic matter and improve the soil. We welcomed a new addition to our garden – a dingle-dangle scarecrow made by Lil families, complete with flippy-floppy hat!

On Friday 24 of March, we went to Long Gallery for The 10 days on the Island-Proof of Life: The Homesickness Project.  Before we went to the gallery we were split into 2 groups. One group was cooking stone soup for the people at the gallery and Jordan River Primary.

Our special guest lunch!

Izzy King, Kingston Primary School

Lunch with Judy Travers, our general Manager was fun except for me getting oil splashed on my face. That was when I was cooking the Indian Flat Bread.

Our brand new kitchen!

Hannah Parker, Springfield Gardens Primary

We are absolutely loving having our brand new kitchen up and running at Springfield Gardens! The kitchen fills the school with the smell of baking and it’s not unusual to see students and staff following their noses down the corridor and through the big glass door to discover what we’ve been cooking up!

The Magic of Transformation

Mitch Thiessen, Austins Ferry Primary

Term one at Austins Ferry Primary disappeared all too quickly! One minute we were drowning under the abundance of tomatoes, the next we were clearing the beds ready for beans.

Outdoor kitchen up and cooking!

Windermere Primary School, Windermere Primary

Our outdoor kitchen is up and cooking! This is a space we will use casually as our new school wing is being built. Windermere Primary is bursting at the seams!

Wow, it has been a super busy term at Springfield Gardens Primary so far. This year, we have started running the Move Well Eat Well program in conjunction with our fantastic kitchen garden program.
